About WSAW:
WSAW is Wausau's first TV station, debuting 71 years ago in 1954. Together, WSAW/WZAW produce more than 30 hours of news each week. We work hard and celebrate our wins. In 2025, the news team was recognized as the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association "News Operation of the Year" and also small market "Station of the Year" (for coverage airing in 2024). Also in 2025, WSAW's podcast- Forgotten: Wisconsin Cold Cases-was honored with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for the second-straight year.
The Internship Program:
As a paid intern, you won't sit and watch someone else doing their job. Gray's intern program is an immersive experience where you serve as a valued team member to our award-winning teams.
Duties include editing video for newscasts and writing for our TV newscasts and digital platforms, including wsaw.com and our social media platforms. Successful interns have also learned how to produce newscasts and report as an MMJ.
With 113 television stations across the U.S., Gray Media offers an unprecedented opportunity for students to learn an area of broadcast expertise from seasoned professionals in the business. Whether your interest involves news, production, sales, marketing, or engineering, our stations become a hands-on learning environment for Gray Media interns. If we have an employee doing it, there can be a Gray intern learning and earning.
Not only will you walk away with an expanded resume and portfolio, but Gray's paid internship opens doors to begin your full-time career with Gray Media. Qualifications/Requirements:
• Available to work at least three shifts per week, up to 28 hours total, including nights and weekends
• Be currently enrolled in a college/university (preferred Junior/Senior)
• Earning a degree in Journalism/Communications, Sales, Marketing, Sports, News, or related fields, with a desire to get hands-on experience in the local media industry
• Strong work ethic and organizational skills
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Motor Vehicle Records check required
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of gear
• Must have a desire to win, a positive attitude, and the ability to reflect on your work and apply feedback. We look forward to hearing from you!
