Electric Line Worker; Journey-Level or Advance Step Apprentice
The City of Evansville is accepting applications for the position of a journey-level Electric Line Worker or an advance step Apprentice within the Water & Light Utility. This is a full-time position which is responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.
The City of Evansville is a fast-growing community with a small-town feel, located in south-central Wisconsin within 30 minutes of Madison, and Janesville, and one hour north of Rockford, Illinois. Evansville has a sought-after public school system, and in recent years the City has invested in the future with the creation of a 24-acre park which includes a state-of-art Aquatic Center, ball diamonds, soccer fields, sport court, and playground. In the historic district, you’ll find another 25-acre park surrounding Lake Leota, where residents enjoy fishing for bass, bluegill, walleye and more, as well as winter ice skating and summer ball games featuring local Hometown Talent Team, the Evansville Jays. The City is also located within 15 minutes of Class-A Trout Streams, as well as a host of State and County Parks for which Wisconsin is famous.
The Water & Light Utility is currently optimizing and updating their legacy system, as well as planning for future growth. In addition to traditional line work, the opportunity exists to work on substations, inspect metering equipment, and assist the water and public works departments as the need arises.
A journey-level line worker certification under the DWD Electric Line Trade is required for the Journey level position. Applicants must have the ability to perform strenuous physical labor and heavy manual tasks, including climbing and working with energized lines. Knowledge of safety rules and good communication skills are important. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). A DMV background check, drug test, and a pre-employment physical exam will be required.
Employee will be assigned a mandatory 7-day on-call period, rotating between rostered employees approximately every six weeks. The position will also require availability for occasional after-hours emergency repairs with evening, weekend, and holiday work possible. Applicants must be able to respond to these situations in a reasonable time frame.
This position offers a competitive wage starting at $51.70 for an experienced journey-level applicant and an advance step Apprentice Starting at $43.42.
